How to stay physically and mentally healthy in the colder months

With the busiest time of the year coming up, it can be easy to forget about ourselves especially during the holiday season, which can be stressful for so many. It is important to remember to take care of and be there for yourself in order to be able to be present for others.

Some tips for staying healthy and happy during this cold time of year:

  1. Stay active— One of the easiest ways to stay healthy is to stay active even if the weather makes you want to curl into a ball in bed. Getting outdoors can instantly boost your energy levels and activities like running, hot yoga or wintertime activities like skiing can help you work up a sweat and boost your immunity.

  2. Get vitamin C— vitamin C is important in keeping your immune system strong. One of the easiest ways to get it in the wintertime is the abundance of seasonal citrus fruits. While it is important to get your vitamins from whole food sources first, if you’re not citrus obsessed, a good quality supplement works too.

  3. Nurture good relationships— it is important to surround yourself with people that make you happy and feel good. Whether this is spending more time with your family and friends or calling someone dear to you. Talking to someone that makes you laugh and have thoughtful and inspiring conversations is good for the soul.

  4. Get sunshine— adequate Vitamin D is super important this time of year where the days are shorter. It’s not only a key factor in your immunity but your overall mood as well. Try to squeeze in a little bit of sunshine everyday. For those in overcast and dark places of the world, a red light lamp works amazing as well.
