The Case for Feeding your inner child
by: Nilufer Ece Bozkan
There comes a time in life that we all want to grow up. We can’t wait to see what it feels like to be a grown up that can make their own decisions and feel a sense of authority over our own lives. And besides, when we’re young, grown ups just seem so cool, like they’ve just got everything figured out. However once we do become grown ups, we forget what it means to be a child and carefree and take each day as it comes. It’s time to bring that feeling of carefree childhood days and whimsical attitudes back into our lives.
How to feed your inner child:
Don’t take life too seriously—we only have this one precious life. Some days, things work out better than on other days but everything still works out. We don’t have to dwell on the things that hurt us or that stress us, but simply acknowledge that they are there and continue to agree that it will get better and that life goes on.
Don’t forget playtime! As we get older, we forget how good it feels to forget everything around us and focus on the present moment and simply play. This can be focusing on a hobby that brings joy to you, playing with your pets, your kids, and really being there while doing it as well. Be engaged, be there for them, and in return you’ll be there for yourself and really learn to cherish your time with yourself and your loved ones.
Play some music and dance it out. Sometime all we need is to just dance it out, get some moves in and just let everything go. It works every time and always gets our adrenaline going and our energy levels back up.
Go for a bike ride to your neighborhood ice cream shop. When was the last time that you just hopped on your bike for fun and went to go get some ice cream? Biking around on a late summer or autumn afternoon is one of the most carefree feelings out there with the sun on your face and the light breeze rustling up the leaves, and it all gets to end in a delicious creamy treat bound to make your inner child happy.
Bake something new and lick the batter when you’re done. Okay, now we all know you’re technically not supposed to lick the batter, but isn’t that one of the most delicious things to eat while waiting for your yummy baked goods to finally finish baking? It’s guaranteed to make you feel delightfully childish.
